Upcycles – der Name ist Programm: man muss im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes Aufsteigen, wenn man mit dem Dreirad der vier Entwickler Nick, Daniel, Andrew und Austin fahren will (Titelbild v.r. ohne Austin). Dann aber sitzt man leicht erhöht über der Straße und auch über der Ladung in Front. Bis zu 250 Kilogramm kann man mit dem Transportrad bewegen. Und: man kann sogar rückwärts fahren und rangieren. Vor allen Dingen aber, macht es tierisch Laune. Der neuste Prototyp verfügt über eine ausgeklügelte Federung – anders als die Vorgängermodelle, die auf dem Hof stehen. Das erste Rad dieser Art entstand vor ca. 6 Jahren.

Das Unternehmen entsteht in der sprichwörtlichen Garage in Williamsburg. Die aktuelle Gesetzgebung in New York dürfte dem Startup Schwung verleihen. Denn jetzt ist klar, dass E-Bikes bis 20 Meilen/Stunde und 750 Watt Unterstützung auf den Straßen unterwegs sein dürfen. Das junge Unternehmen hat vor allen Dingen den lokalen Markt im Auge und kümmert sich intensiv um die Bedürfnisse etwaiger zukünftiger Nutzer. Nick Wong: „Wir wollen die Bedürfnisse unserer Nutzer verstehen. Wozu brauchen sie das Rad, was können sie sich vorstellen und in welchen sozialen und ökonomischen Kontexten funktioniert das Dreirad?“
Das Startup arbeitet mit dem Urban X Accelerator zusammen, der nur einen Block entfernt ansprechende Räume und Möglichkeiten zur Verfügung stellt. Urban X fördert junge Unternehmen, die neue Ideen für den urbanen Raum hervorbringen und Herausforderungen ganz neu denken.

Upcycles – the name says it all: you literally have to climb if you want to ride the tricycle of the four developers Nick, Daniel, Andrew und Austin. The company is being built in the proverbial inventors-garage in Williamsburg. The current legislation in New York should give the startup momentum. For now it is clear that e-bikes may be up to 20 miles / hour and 750 watts support on the roads. Above all, the young company has its eye on the local market and cares intensely about the needs of any future users. Nick Wong: „We want to understand the needs of our users. Why do they need the bike, what can they imagine and in which social and economic contexts does the tricycle work? “
The startup teamed up with the Urban X Accelerator, which provides appealing spaces and facilities just a block away. Urban X supports young companies that bring new ideas for urban space and think new challenges.
